About ASEC
History
The American Savings Education Council (ASEC) was formed in 1994 by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Employee Benefit Research Institute. Acquired by the Bipartisan Policy Center in 2022, ASEC relaunched activities in support of approximately 100 partner organizations and agencies across the nonprofit, academic, trade, corporate, and government sectors.
ASEC convenes senior industry representatives, regulators and lawmakers, and other key stakeholders to foster open dialogue and advance key issues related to financial well-being, bringing attention to retirement and financial security while also educating the public and policymakers through events, research, and media.
Mission
The American Savings Education Council’s (ASEC) mission is to promote cross-sector collaboration to eliminate barriers and pave the way towards a more financially secure future for all.
We realize this goal through our collective efforts to convene, collaborate, and educate. ASEC has the power to make a substantial and lasting impact on the financial well-being of Americans.
Objectives
To best navigate today’s complex economic landscape, Americans want resources and tools to inform their decisions to save, budget, invest, and borrow. ASEC’s primary objective is to streamline and simplify the often-burdensome bureaucratic processes that impede access to such resources and hinder progress on critical household financial and retirement security issues.
By promoting education, eliminating barriers, and fostering interagency and cross-sector collaboration, ASEC paves the way towards a more secure and prosperous future for individuals and families across the nation.
Private Thought Convener
ASEC’s commitment to fostering productive and action-oriented dialogue is evidenced by an emphasis on private closed-door sessions, which encourage partners to engage openly, challenge assumptions, and collaboratively devise concrete steps for progress. Through private networking opportunities and meetings, partners will have an opportunity to engage directly with peers to share perspectives and exchange best practices.
Cross-Sector Collaborator
ASEC leverages the position and expertise of its partners to cut through red tape and facilitate public-private collaboration, spurring cooperation and unlocking innovation. Our unique structure fosters open and constructive dialogue to reduce or eliminate existing barriers to building household financial resilience.
Education Resource Hub
ASEC showcases partner research, events, and initiatives through a bimonthly newsletter and a highly visible website. Accessible to partners, the public, and policymakers, these resources serve to keep stakeholders abreast of current issues and create opportunities for partners to collaborate on future initiatives.
